Why up to 70% of innovations in industry fail to reach their potential

Innovation is the driving force behind industry – but it does not always bring the expected results. Many companies invest in modern technologies that are ultimately not used or do not bring the expected benefits. The reason is not the technology itself, but the way it is prepared and implemented. We discussed these challenges at the Newmatec 2025 conference and during the webinar "Without a change in thinking, innovation does not work," a recording of which is still available online.

When innovation fails on the details

We know from experience that even the most modern solutions can fail on details that no one would expect. Sometimes it is a matter of technical limitations—for example, incorrectly selected materials or an environment in which the system does not function optimally. Other times, the problem lies in the decisions made during project preparation – for example, when planning is done without consulting the technology integrator and it is later necessary to invest in repairs.

It also happens that companies get carried away by trends and implement solutions that no one uses in practice. Or employees resist new technologies because they do not understand their benefits. The common denominator in all these situations is insufficient preparation, communication, and understanding of the goal.

Trust and mindset as the basis for success

Technology is only part of the equation. If people don't see the point of change, they will accept new solutions with mistrust or fear. That's why team involvement, explaining the goal, and open communication are key to ensuring that innovation is seen not as a threat, but as an opportunity. Successful innovation begins with a change in mindset—openness, trust, and a willingness to adapt processes.

The data speaks for itself

Up to 70% of innovations in industry fail to reach their potential. Of these, 45% exceed their budget, 17% take longer than planned, and 56% fail to deliver the expected results. The most common causes? Lack of team synchronization with project goals (78%) and underestimating the complexity of the project (35%).

Where is automation headed?

Automation will continue to grow. Integration is often more expensive than the robot itself, and humanoid robots are already on the horizon. That is why we will continue to focus on how to connect technologies, processes, and people so that innovation brings real results.

M2M Solutions will be there.
